UHL fans toss bears for kids

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- United Hockey League (UHL) teams have continued to play great hockey in December, but also have done their part to spread a little cheer during this holiday season. Several UHL teams have held Teddy Bear Toss nights encouraging fans to toss stuffed animals on to the ice after the home team scores their first goal of the game. The Motor City Mechanics collected over 700 stuffed animals from their fans on December 10th. The stuffed toys were then given to the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation for distribution.

The Rockford IceHogs also had a very successful collection as 1,317 stuffed animals were tossed to the ice during their game on December 10th. The toys were donated to local hospitals and charities in Rockford and surrounding communities.

The Kalamazoo Wings held their Sixth Annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday, December 17th. Fans tossed 1,250 stuffed bears during the event. The toys will be distributed throughout southwest Michigan by the Angel Tree Foundation and K-Wings players will also deliver some of the toys to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. The K-Wings team has enjoyed much success during their annual event as they have posted a perfect 6-0-0 record in their Annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Kalamazoo has also played three Teddy Bear Toss games on the road in their UHL history and has won all three.

The Adirondack Frostbite, Danbury Trashers, Flint Generals, and Roanoke Valley Vipers also hosted Teddy Bear Toss games this month.

UHL TEAMS WITH CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL - The UHL has teamed with St. Louis Children's Hospital for the 2006 UHL All-Star Classic. A game featuring St. Louis Blues Alumni and a UHL Commissioner's Team will benefit the multiple programs of the Children's Hospital Foundation. Coaches and Players selected to play in the event will also make a special visit to St. Louis Children's Hospital the day prior to the game. The 2006 UHL All-Star Classic is being hosted by the Missouri River Otters and will be played on Wednesday, January 25th, 2006 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. www.stlouischildrens.org

Adirondack Frostbite - (0-2-0) - Adirondack has been outscored 17-5 during its five-game winless streak (0-4-1)... The Frostbite have not converted on the power play in their last 16 opportunities...Defenseman P.J. Byrne scored his first goal of the season on Friday vs. Fort Wayne...Center Sylvain Cloutier has scored six of his eight goals this season on the power play...Adirondack is the fourth most penalized team in the UHL, averaging 29.73 minutes per game.

Danbury Trashers - (2-0-2) - Forward Alex Goupil is riding a five-game assist streak...Right wing Carlyle Lewis had a season best three assists on Sunday vs. Roanoke...Goaltender Jayme Platt is 5-0-0 in his last six starts with a 1.59 GAA and one shutout...Defenseman Donny Grover is tied for third in the league with a plus-17 rating. That rating leads all UHL rookies...Center David Hymovitz has 11 points (6g, 5a) and plus-5 rating in eight games vs. Roanoke this season.

Elmira Jackals - (0-1-1) - Center Andy Rozak scored his first professional point in his first professional game when he dished out an assist on Saturday vs. Flint...The Jackals wrap up their six-game road stretch on Wednesday. Elmira is 2-2-1 during the stretch...The Jackals have played just ten of their first 27 games at home this season... Forward Chris Chaput leads UHL rookies with 17 assists...Forward Jarrett Konkle is second amongst UHL rookies with 16 goals. That number also ranks him tied for fourth among all UHL players.

Flint Generals - (1-1-1) - Flint was held to three goals in regulation during their three games this week...Two of their three games during the week went to a shootout and three of their last four have gone to the extra session... Defenseman Steve Makway has scored on two of his three shootout attempts this season...The Generals have an even record at both home (6-6-2) and on the road (5-5-2)...The Generals are 8-0-1 when leading after two periods.

Fort Wayne Komets - (2-0-0) - The Komets have won five of their last six games...The Fort Wayne power play unit converted four of 11 opportunities during the week (36.4%). The penalty kill unit successfully stopped 11 of 12 opponent opportunities (91.7%)...Fort Wayne scored their eighth shorthanded goal of the season on Friday which ties them for the league lead...Center Colin Chaulk skated in his 500th professional game on Friday...Left wing P.C. Drouin is riding a five-game point streak...Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre is on a five-game winning streak.

Kalamazoo Wings - (1-1-1) - Goaltender Joel Martin recorded a 4-0 shutout vs. Adirondack on Saturday. His four shutouts this season lead the UHL...Left wing Nick Bootland had ten shots on goal vs. Port Huron on Sunday. That ties a team season high and ranks him second in the UHL in shots on goal this season (112)... Kalamazoo had a team high 48 shots on goal vs. Port Huron, including 22 in the second period...The K-Wings are allowing a league best 26.81 shots per game...Kalamazoo is 7-2-1 within their division.

Missouri River Otters - (0-2-0) - Left wing Jim Duhart scored in each game during the week to extend his point streak to six games. He has scored in all six games with Missouri this season...The River Otters had their four-game home win streak snapped on Saturday by Fort Wayne... Center Damian Surma is riding a four-game point streak (1g, 4a). He leads the team with 23 points this season (8g, 15a)...In five games during the month of December, right wing Frank Littlejohn has six points (3g, 3a).

Motor City Mechanics - (2-1-0) - Matt Smith and Mike Burgoyne lead all UHL defensemen with seven goals... Danton Cole recorded his 80th UHL coaching win in Sunday's 3-2 shootout win vs. Flint...Goaltender Bill Ruggiero recorded his first UHL win on Sunday. He made 33 saves and stopped four of six in the shootout...Right wing Vlad Serov skated in his 50th UHL game on Saturday...Forward David Herring has recorded four points (2g, 2a) in three games since being acquired from Elmira last week.

Muskegon Fury - (1-1-0) - With their 4-1 win vs. Quad City on Saturday, Muskegon remains undefeated vs. Western Division opponents this season (10-0-0)...The Fury are the lone unbeaten team on the road this season (9-0-1)...Right wing Rustyn Dolyny scored his 100th goal in a Muskegon uniform on Saturday...Center Jeff Nelson was involved in all six Fury goals during the week (1g, 5a). He now leads the UHL in scoring with 49 points (15g, 34a)...Right wing Robin Bouchard scored a goal in both games this week to extend his point streak to 24 games.

Port Huron Flags - (3-0-0) - The Flags have won three consecutive games, which equals their season best streak...Port Huron is 6-2-2 in their last ten games...Center Aaron Brand is riding a five-game assist streak and currently ranks tied for ninth in UHL scoring with 31 points (10g, 21a)...Left wing Brett Lutes is tied for second in the UHL with nine power play goals...The Flags overcame a two-goal deficit to Kalamazoo on Sunday and scored a goal with 29 seconds remaining in the third to send the game to a shootout.

Quad City Mallards - (1-1-0) - Forward Chad Woollard tallied his 300th career point when he assisted on the game-tying goal in the 3-2 win vs. Kalamazoo on Friday...Forward Anthony Blumer scored a goal in both games during the week. It marks the third time this season he has notched a goal in back-to-back games...Quad City handed Kalamazoo their first home loss on Friday. It also marked the first time the Mallards have won when trailing after two periods on the road.

Richmond RiverDogs - (1-1-0) - Robbie Nichols is one win shy of 300 for his UHL coaching career. His 299th win came on Friday vs. his former team, the Flint Generals...Mike D'Alessandro earned his first shutout of the season on Friday as he stopped all 33 Flint shots in the 1-0 win... Center Mike Oliveira scored both Richmond goals during the week. His goal on Friday was shorthanded and he currently ranks second in the UHL with four shorthanded goals this season...Oliveira has points in five of his last six games.

Roanoke Valley Vipers - (2-2-0) - The Vipers played four games during the week against their division rival Danbury. Both of their wins during the week were 4-3 shootout wins. Forward Gray Shaneberger scored in both shootouts...The last three wins for Roanoke have been 4-3 shootout victories...After trailing 3-0 heading into the third period, the Vipers scored three goals in the third to send Wednesday's game to a shootout...Winger Michael Wiggins scored his first goal with the team on Sunday after being acquired earlier in the week.

Rockford IceHogs - (2-0-0) - Center Preston Mizzi set a team record on Saturday with 13 shots on goal. He fired 23 shots in two games during the weekend...Rockford had a team season high 53 shots on goal in Saturday's 5-1 win vs. Richmond. The IceHogs lead the UHL with a 35.56 shots per game average. They out-shot their opponents 98-56 during the weekend...Rockford has held the opposition 0 of 25 on the power play in the last five games...Rookie winger Robin Big Snake has seven goals in his last five games.
