Game #50 - Road Game #21 (21-28), (5-15)

RHP #31 Casey Henn (3-4, 3.24 ERA) vs. RHP #24 Zach Gordon (0-1, 2.00 ERA)

Last time out...

The Freedom fell 5-1 on Sunday to the Washington Wild Things. Joe Staley hit his team-leading seventh home run of the year to put Florence up 1-0 in the second but they would not score again. A Sam Montgomery RBI single in the bottom of the second tied the game and the Wild Things took the lead for good in the fourth on a Montgomery RBI fielder's choice. A Stewart Ijames RBI single and a Garrett Rau fielder's choice in the fifth inning gave the Wild Things some insurance against Chuck Weaver (4-2) who took the loss for Florence, going five innings and giving up four runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out four. Meanwhile, Washington starter Scott Dunn went three innings, allowing the one run and reliever Shawn Blackwell was dominant out of the bullpen, tossing five innings of shutout ball while allowing one hit and striking out seven to get the win. With the win, Washington swept Florence.

For Starters...

Casey Henn has only allowed three earned runs over his last 12.2 innings pitched but has lost two consecutive starts. In his most recent outing on June 11 against Washington he went six and two thirds innings, giving up only two runs on four hits in a 3-2 defeat. Henn's made one start this season against the Lake Erie Crushers. On June 4 he beat them by a score of 6-1 as the right-hander went seven innings, giving up only one run on three hits. He walked three and struck out a season-high nine batters in the victory. Henn had a sensational rookie season for the Freedom, posting a 5-0 record with a 3.67 ERA for Florence fresh out of Wright State University. In nine appearances, eight starts, Henn struck out 38 batters in 49 innings while only allowing only 39 hits.

Against Lake Erie...

The Freedom dropped two of three to the Crushers June 4-5 at UC Health Stadium. They split a double header on June 4 and fell by one run in 11 innings in the rubber match on June 5. This is Florence's first visit to All Pro Freight Stadium in 2014.

All-Star Results...

Sam Eberle went 0-1 with a walk and a strikeout in the Frontier League All-Star Game on Wednesday. Joe Staley went 0-2 with two strikeouts and Cole Miles was 0-2 in the game. Chuck Weaver did not participate in the contest. In Tuesday's home run derby Staley hit seven home runs in round one and five more home runs in a "swing-off" with Evansville's Shayne Houck. Houck hit six to advance to the next round.

Where's the offense?!

The Freedom's team batting average of .232 is last in the Frontier League. Their 194 runs scored are the second fewest in the league.

Platoon splits...

Switch hitter Joe Staley leads the team in batting average against right-handed pitchers at .330 but his average falls to .193 against lefties. Meanwhile Sam Eberle leads the way with a .380 AVG vs. lefties.

Low scoring...

Sunday's 5-1 loss was the 17th time the Freedom have scored fewer than three runs in a game. They are 1-16 in such games. When the Freedom score three or more runs they have a record of 20-12.

Road woes...

Florence is 5-15 away from UC Health Stadium and they have not won a road series yet on the season, dropping all seven series they have played on the road.

Walk this way...
