Washington, PA-From Frontier League All-Star to major leaguer, the Washington Wild Things are pleased announced that outfielder Stewart Ijames' contract has been purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

In his second year roaming the outfield for Washington, Ijames, a two-time all-star has put up stellar numbers for the team this season. His .319 batting average is the highest on the team and the Owensboro, Kentucky native's 45 RBI are just three behind the league lead.

Ijames, who will depart for Arizona Saturday morning, will report to the Diamondbacks rookie league squad. "It's definitely going to change my life. Ever since I was twelve I told everybody that I was going to be in the major leagues and now it has happened. I'm excited," Ijames revealed.

The left-handed power hitter has cranked 15 home runs this season and leaves the Frontier League tied with River City Rascals catcher Josh Ludy.

During his first season with the Wild Things (2013) Ijames played in 90 games and produced big offensive numbers as a mainstay in the daily lineup. Through 316 at-bats, the lefty slugged .297 with 29 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs and 45 RBI. Additionally, the former Milwaukee Brewers draft pick and University of Louisville standout was selected to start in right field at the 2013 Frontier League All-Star Game in Washington.

As for a final farewell message to his teammates Ijames smiled and said, "It didn't hit home until I was standing for the national anthem in my uniform. I can't express what this baseball team means to me. I'm walking away from family."

The Wild Things meet the River City Rascals again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The team is hosting its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game, presented by COGO's. For tickets, call 724-250-9555, order online at www.washingtonwildthings.com or stop by the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office.
