TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Ben Waldrip drove in two runs on a 10th inning single and the Gateway Grizzlies picked up a 5-3 win against the Traverse City Beach Bums in the series opener Friday night at Wuerfel Park.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the 10th inning, Waldrip brought in his 27th and 28th runs of the season to help Gateway (34-19) regain the lead and move one game ahead of the River City Rascals in the West Division.

The win helped the Grizzlies snap a three-game losing streak.

The score stayed that way until the ninth inning when Madison Beaird brought in TJ Bennett on a successful squeeze play.

Scott Woodward brought in the game-tying run in the ninth inning for Traverse City to push the game to extra innings.

Richard Barrett (2-1), who allowed the game tying run in the ninth, notched the win for the Grizzlies and Chris DeBoo picked up his first professional save after a one-two-three ninth inning.
