The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-scored five runs in the last two innings to come from behind and defeat Windy City 6-5 on Friday night at Silver Cross Field.

Both teams scored in the first inning. The ThunderBolts tallied twice thanks to a 2-run homer from Ryan Soares and Joliet picked up a run on a sacrifice fly from Grant DeBruin to make it a 2-1 ballgame. Both pitchers settled in well after that. Joliet's Andrew Busby gave up a harmless double in the 3rd but kept out of trouble until the 5th when the ThunderzBolts loaded the bases. He struck out Soares to end that threat. Windy City's Daniel Cropper gave up three straight singles in the 3rd after two were out but did not give up a run. He retired seven in a row at one point.

The game stayed 2-1 into the 7th inning. Windy City started the inning with a single and walk off of Busby. That brought reliever Jordan Wellander into the game for Joliet. Windy City All-Star Kyle Robinson, who won the home run hitting contest during the All-Star festivities, ripped a three run homer to give the ThunderBolts a 5-1 lead. The Slammers started their comeback in the 8th inning. Adam Giacalone provided a two-run double to make it a 5-3 game. In the bottom of the 9th, Windy City brought in their closer Daniel Carela. Seth Granger led off with a single and moved to 2nd base on a wild pitch. He scored as Adam Lewis reached on an error to make the score 5-4. Chris Epps drew a walk and after Russell Moldenhauer struck out, Grant DeBruin came up. With two outs and two strikes, DeBruin drove a single to left field that scored Epps with the game-winning run to end the game 6-5. It is the 25th one-run game for Joliet and they are now 12-13 in that category. Windy City, on the other hand, has now lost their 9th straight one run contest.
