Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) secured their seventh straight win over the Pawtucket Red Sox with a 5-2 triumph on Tuesday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (66-52) got a huge lift in the win thanks to a three-run homer by Aaron Judge in the sixth. The PawSox (44-73) dropped their ninth straight decision.
Starter Kyle Haynes (1-1) took home his first Triple-A victory by limiting Pawtucket to a solo home run from Quintin Berry in the fifth. Haynes yielded three hits and three walks, but struck out six over 5.2 innings. William Cuevas (0-2) shouldered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and three walks over five frames. Andrew Bailey recorded the final five outs for his third save in four appearances with SWB.
The RailRiders struck first when Jose Pirela came across home on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the third. After Berry's round-tripper to right-center squared the game at one in the fifth, SWB immediately reclaimed the advantage. Pirela worked his second walk and raced home on a two-out double to center by Ben Gamel.
Robby Scott relieved Cuevas in the sixth, but promptly surrendered singles to Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez. Judge worked the count full against Scott and then uncorked a thunderous home run off the concourse bridge beyond left field. For Judge, it was his fifth homer with SWB and 17th on the year.
The PawSox had one last rally, loading the bases against reliever Nick Goody. Bailey entered and allowed a walk to Humberto Quintero that forced in Carlos Rivero. The right-hander then settled in to strike out four of the final five batters he faced.
The RailRiders look for a series win against the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) on Wednesday night. First pitch at PNC Field is set for 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Chris Capuano (1-1, 1.93) opposes left-hander Edwin Escobar (0-2, 7.54).
