Early Runs Cost Pigs in 4-1 Loss

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (53-64) dropped the series opener to the Syracuse Chiefs (51-67) by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.

The Pigs brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but RHP Rafael Martin (1.0 IP, 2 H, K) fanned Tyler Henson to end the game. Martin got the final three outs to pick up his eighth save of the season.

RHP Scott McGregor (3.0 IP, 5 H, R, ER) earned the win for the Chiefs to improve his record to 5-5 on the year.

Syracuse took a 4-0 lead with a four-run second via two-run triples from Matt den Dekker and Emmanuel Burriss.

Pigs starter Sean O'Sullivan (1-2) gave up four runs on four hits while fanning three over six innings of work.

Lehigh Valley plated their lone run of the night in the fourth as Aaron Altherr (2-3, 2B, R) led off with a double and later scored on Tyler Pastornicky's RBI double.

Pastornicky (2-4, 2B, RBI) was making his IronPigs debut.

Syracuse starter Taylor Jordan (n/d) allowed two hits over two scoreless innings.

LHP Cesar Jimenez (1.0 IP, H) and RHP Dalier Hinojosa (1.0 IP, H, K) each tossed a scoreless frame in relief for the Pigs.

Chase d'Arnaud (2-4) also had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.

The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Anthony Vasquez (7-4, 3.87) will be on the bump for the IronPigs against Chiefs RHP Paolo Espino (4-5, 3.09).
