Bats Shutout for Second Straight Game, Fall to Clippers, 3-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky- The Louisville Bats (58-60) returned to Louisville Slugger Field and opened the eight-game homestand with a 3-0 loss to the Columbus Clippers (64-52) on Tuesday. The Bats have gone a season-high 20 innings without scoring and were shut out in consecutive games for the first time this season.

All three Clippers runs came in the third, with third baseman Audy Ciriaco scoring the first run on an RBI single by second baseman Justin Toole, and first baseman Jesus Aguilar doubled home two run with his 19th two-bagger of the season.

Starting on the mound for the Bats was righty Donn Roach (L, 2-2, 3.66). He went seven innings, gave up nine hits, three runs, one earned, and struck out one. Righty Layne Somsen made his second appearance since coming off the disabled list and pitched a scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout.

Clippers righty Jarrett Grube (W, 5-0, 2.83) started on the mound and remained undefeated. He went six and two thirds, gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out five.

The Bats stranded eight runners on the bags and were out-hit by the Clippers 9-to-8.

The series continues Wednesday at Louisville Slugger Field at 7:05 pm. Righty Robert Stephenson (4-1, 3.15) is projected to take the mound for the Bats and the Clippers had not announced a starter by Tuesday night.
