
Joynt's Two Home Runs Not Enough to Prevent Sweep

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The St. Paul Saints (11-4) finished off a three-game sweep of the Kansas City T-Bones (7-9) with an 8-6 victory in front of 5,165 fans on Sunday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
The first three batters of the game all reached and scored off of Devin Anderson (2-1) as the Saints took a 3-0 lead in the first. Kansas City got a run back against Donald Brandt in the bottom of the inning when Aharon Eggleston reached on a leadoff single and eventually scored on an RBI groundout by Ray Sadler. Both teams added single tallies in the second before a two-run home run by Richard Mercado in the top of the third pushed the score to 6-2.
Kansas City rallied back with two runs in each of the next two innings, starting with a solo home run by Brian Joynt to begin the fourth. Ray Sadler then tied the game for the T-Bones in the fifth with a two-run blast, his fourth of the season.
Brandt left after five innings having allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out six. He did not factor into the decision.
The score remained tied at six until the Saints used two solo home runs in the seventh to reclaim the final lead of the game at 8-6. Anderson took the loss after allowing eight runs on 13 hits over seven and one-thirds innings. The left-hander threw 106 pitches in the contest.
Steven Stewart surrendered just two hits over two and two-thirds scoreless innings to finish the game for Kansas City. Alberto Rolon (2-0) earned the victory for St. Paul after allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings of relief. Roberto Manuel earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
