Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- Just like Saturday night, the Grand Prairie AirHogs scored in the first, got a good six-inning outing from their starting pitcher and three good bullpen innings and beat the Shreveport-Bossier Captains by two runs, this time winning 3-1 on Sunday in front of 2,826 fans at QuikTrip Park to complete a three-game sweep of the defending American Association champions.

David Espinosa walked to start the bottom of the first against Cody Railsback (0-1), who was making his season debut and just his fourth career start - his first since 2008. After David Thomas sacrificed him to second and Cesar Nicolas's infield single moved Espinosa to third, Greg Porter muscled a single to left-center to put the AirHogs (11-5) on the board. John Alonso followed with a single to load the bases and Tyler Henley's sacrifice fly made it 2-0.

That turned out to be enough offense for Grand Prairie, as Greg Smith (2-1) who stifled the Captains (9-8) to the tune just two hits and a run (on Alex Cowart's sixth-inning solo homer, his first professional longball) through six innings, with one walk and three strikeouts.

The AirHogs did answer Cowart's home run with three-straight two-out hits against Mark Haynes in the bottom of the sixth, with Jake Taylor extending his hitting and RBI streak to six games with a single to make it 3-1.

Jon Fulton pitched two scoreless innings after Smith departed, and Jon Hunton worked around a one-out double in the ninth for his sixth save.

Notes: Grand Prairie hit into five double plays in the game...Despite outscoring the Captains by only five runs in the three games, the AirHogs out-hit Shreveport-Bossier 38-26 in the three games...The AirHogs retired the Captains in the first inning in order in all three games...Nicolas was 3-for-3 on Sunday.

The AirHogs head out on the road for a four-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones, starting at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, May 30. The next home game at QuikTrip Park is on Friday, June 3, against the St. Paul Saints, with Teacher Appreciation Night ($5 box seats with ID) and Church Youth Group Night.
