Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - The Gary SouthShore RailCats fell in the rubber game with the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Sunday afternoon by the final count of 6-2.

The Goldeyes opened the scoring without a hit in the bottom of the first against RailCats starter Derrick Gordon. Price Kendall opened the game by drawing a walk and stole second. Brian Myrow's sacrifice fly gave the Goldeyes a 1-0 edge. The run stopped a 13.1 inning stretch without allowing an earned run for Gordon.

Not to be outdone, the RailCats responded in similar fashion in the top of the second. With one away, Jeff Beachum began a string of three straight singles as Toddric Johnson and Mike Rohde followed suit. Chris Carrara knotted the game with a sacrifice fly. Winnipeg grabbed a 3-1 lead by responding with two runs in the bottom of the second. Alan Rick connected on a two-run homer. Gordon threw five innings in the game, taking the loss after allowing three runs.

The RailCats clawed within a run in the top of the seventh. Johnson notched his second single to open the inning and was replaced by Rohde on a fielder's choice. Rohde scored from first as Carrara doubled into the right field corner. Carrara was thrown out at the plate attempting to score the tying run later in the inning.

Winnipeg tallied some insurance in the bottom of the eighth, using five singles to score three times and stretch the lead to 6-2. Victor Ferrante knocked home two of the runs by singling through a drawn in infield. Johnson logged a pair of hits for the RailCats.

The roadswing continues in Iowa tomorrow. The RailCats (7-9) will visit the Sioux City Explorers in the first meeting between the two teams since 2005. RHP Scott Shaw (2-1, 4.71) takes to the hill for the RailCats opposite RHP Ty Marotz (0-1, 2.79) for the X's. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
