John Moses Promoted to Gwinnett Manager

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Atlanta Braves announced today that John Moses has been named the new manager of the Gwinnett Braves. Moses, Gwinnett's hitting coach for the past two seasons, replaces Rick Albert, who has been reassigned to the Braves' Gulf Coast League affiliate.

It is the second managerial stint for Moses this season. He went 1-1 as Gwinnett's acting manager from May 17-18 immediately following the promotion of former G-Braves' manager Brian Snitker to Atlanta's interim manager. Prior to this season, Moses had never managed at any level of professional baseball.

The 58-year-old Moses is in his fourth season in the Atlanta Braves' organization. In addition to his time with Gwinnett, he has also served as the hitting coach at Advanced-A Lynchburg (2013-14) and at Double-A Mississippi (2014).

Moses' coaching career includes stints as a hitting coach in the minor league systems of the Los Angeles Dodgers (2008-10) and Houston Astros (2011). He has also worked at the Major League level, serving as the Seattle Mariners' first base coach (2000-03, 2007) and outfield and baserunning coordinator (2004) and the Cincinnati Reds' bench coach (2005) and first base coach (2006).

Prior to coaching, Moses played parts of 11 seasons in Major League Baseball. He batted .254 with 11 home runs, 145 RBIs and 101 stolen bases in 769 games with the Seattle Mariners (1982-87, 1992), Minnesota Twins (1988-90) and Detroit Tigers (1991).

Albert, a member of the Braves' organization for the past 45 seasons, guided Gwinnett to a 10-13 record in 23 games in his first career Triple-A managerial assignment. He was promoted to the post from the Gulf Coast League on May 17 and joined the club on May 19. Albert replaced Snitker, who went 19-20 in 39 games prior to joining Atlanta.

The Gwinnett Braves (30-34) begin a six-game road trip tonight with the opener of a three-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-29). First pitch at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA is set for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Joel De La Cruz (1-1, 5.73 ERA) is slated to start for the G-Braves, while right-hander David Buchanan (3-4, 4.76 ERA) counters for the IronPigs. Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM at 6:35 p.m.
