Schaumburg Boomers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The second consecutive double digit strikeout performance by a starter propelled the Schaumburg Boomers to a 5-2 win over the Joliet Slammers in the opener of a series on Friday night.

Danny Jimenez matched the 10 strikeout performance of Mike Giovenco on Thursday by equaling the franchise mark in an eight-inning exhibition which was the longest start of the season. The St. Charles, Ill. native did not walk a batter in earning his first win with the team. Schaumburg trailed twice in the game but took the lead with a three-run sixth. Alexi Colon's first homer of the season opened the scoring in the inning and tied the score at 2-2. Chad Mozingo and Sean Mahley posted run scoring singles in the frame.

The Boomers recorded 10 hits in the contest for the fourth consecutive double-digit hit showing. Mahley collected three hits and drove in a pair. James Bierlein worked a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to post his third save of the season.

The Boomers (12-8) continue the series with Joliet on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. RHP Chris Phelan (1-0, 1.88) starts for Schaumburg opposite LHP Corey Kimes (2-1, 4.42).
