Jhonathan Jolts Thunder in 5-0 Shutout Win

TRENTON, N.J. - Jhonathan Ramos was studly for the Curve on Thursday night, dealing six innings while facing one over the minimum as the Curve claimed the series finale, 5-0, from the Trenton Thunder at Arm & Hammer Park. Ramos retired the first 14 batters he faced before a single by Dan Fiorito in the fifth broke up his perfect bid. He combined with Jeff Inman, Nate Baker and Kenn Kasparek on the team's sixth shutout of the season.

Thunder starter Joel de la Cruz (3-3) matched Ramos early but ran into lots of two-out trouble in the fourth. With no one on and two outs, de la Cruz walked Stetson Allie, Elias Diaz and Willy Garcia to load the bases. Dan Gamache made him pay with a two-run single that was deflected by de la Cruz himself out to right-center. Keon Broxton capped the rally with a double that scored Garcia.

That was more than Ramos needed as he mowed down Thunder hitters on Thursday night. He did not walk a batter and struck out two before being lifted after six innings.

Inman worked 1.2 scoreless innings and Baker tossed a third of an inning using one pitch to get the Curve out of a mini jam in the eighth. In the ninth, Andy Vasquez gave the Curve some cushion with his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right, to make it, 5-0.

Kasparek came in for the bottom of the ninth anyways and retired the side in order with a pair of strikeouts to end the Curve's mini two-game slide.

Alen Hanson had a hit in the win to run his hit streak to eight games while Diaz doubled in his first plate appearance to extend his season-best hit streak to 11 games. Broxton and Vasquez had the multi-hit games in the victory on Thursday night.

With a win in their pocket, the Curve (51-68) now head to Baseballtown to take on the Reading Fightin Phils beginning at 7:05 p.m. Friday night. All-Star RHP Adrian Sampson (10-5, 2.62) takes the hill on Friday to face the Fightins for the first time this season. He'll be opposed by RHP Ryan O'Sullivan (5-7, 3.75) of Reading.

Airtime on ESPN 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
