Squirrels' Skid Reaches Historic Proportions; B-Mets Sweep 3-0

Richmond, VA - The Binghamton Mets (70-47) brushed aside the Richmond Flying Squirrels (66-52), 3-0, at The Diamond on Thursday night to sweep a three-game series and send the Squirrels to their eighth consecutive loss - a franchise record. 9,334 witnessed Binghamton improving to 6-0 against the Squirrels this season. The cumulative score in the season-series favors the B-Mets 36-9.

Both starting pitchers were in control throughout their outings. Binghamton right-hander Matt Bowman twirled six scoreless innings. He allowed just five hits, all singles, walked one and struck out six. Richmond lefty Ty Blach was even better. He worked seven frames, blanking the B-Mets on five hits. He walked three and fanned five. Neither starter factored in the decision.

Binghamton plated the first runs of the game against right-hander Jose Casilla in the eighth inning. Brian Burgamy got the B-Mets started with his third hit of night. He laced a one-out double into the left-center field alley. An out later, the Squirrels elected to intentionally walk Darrell Cecilliani. Jace Boyd then crunched a two-run double to left-center field. Casilla (4-1) was saddled with the loss - his first of the season.

Right-hander Hansel Robles (7-6) worked two perfect innings of relief to earn the win. He struck out four in the process. Fellow righty Cody Satterwhite had no trouble in the ninth inning, retiring the side in order for his 12th save of the season.

The B-Mets tacked on an insurance run off lefty Phil McCormick in the ninth inning. T.J. Rivera knocked in Wilfredo Tovar with a single to left field. Tovar had doubled to the left-field corner.

The Squirrels continue their six-game home stand as they welcome the Portland SeaDogs (Boston Red Sox) to The Diamond for a three-game series beginning on Friday night. The opener of the series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as Richmond LHP Ryan Bradley (0-0, ---) will make the start against Portland LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (4-7, 4.60).
