
Jhoan Duran and Gabriel Maciel join Kernels from Kane County

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Jhoan Duran and OF Gabriel Maciel will join the Kernels from Kane County; RHP Bailey Ober has been placed on the 7-day DL; and OF Jared Akins has been assigned to Elizabethton. Brian Maloney, Twins Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
Duran and Maciel were acquired by the Twins as part of the trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks for Eduardo Escobar. Duran had made 15 starts at Kane County, posting a 5-4 record and 4.73 ERA. In 64.2 IP, he allowed 69 hits and 41 runs (34 earned) with 28 walks and 71 strikeouts.
Maciel played in 68 games for the Cougars, batting .287 with a home run and 16 RBI. He also has 10 doubles and 14 stolen bases in 19 attempts.
Ober left yesterday's game vs. Clinton after pitching the third inning with a right elbow strain. He has made 14 starts for the Kernels, posting a 7-1 record and 3.84 ERA with 88 strikeouts and just nine walks in 75 IP.
Akins played in 18 games for the Kernels, batting .209 (14-67) with 8 RBI. He was selected by the Twins in the 13th round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Fresno State.
Duran and Maciel are active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game vs. Quad Cities. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with three players currently on the DL.
The Kernels continue their five-game home stand tonight at 6:35 PM vs. Quad Cities with the gates opening at 5:30 PM. The upcoming home stand continues through Sunday, July 29th.
