James Walks Off Third Game of the Season, Claws Win 3-2

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jiwan James hit a two-out walk-off base hit to center in the tenth, and BlueClaws won 3-2 Saturday night.

With one out Alan Schoenberger singled, and advanced to second on a Jonathan Villar groundout setting the stage for James, who had a walk-off home run on June 14th and a walk-off double on June 29th.

This is Lakewood's 11th walk-off win of the season in just their 49th game at FirstEnergy Park. With two hits on the night James extended his hit streak to 18 games, and is a walk-off triple away from a walk-off cycle this season.

Both starters were outstanding but neither figured in the decision. Colby Shreve let up just two runs in eight stellar innings for Lakewood (12-4), while Bobby Bundy also allowed two runs (both unearned) in six innings of work for Delmarva (7-9).

Both of the BlueClaws runs off Bundy came in the first. Jonathan Villar led off the game with a single, and James reached on a throwing error by TJ Baxter on a force attempt that put runners on the corners with no outs.

Leandro Castro and Jonathan Singleton each brought in a run on a groundout to put the Claws up 2-0.

Delmarva battled back starting int he fifth, when Gary Helmick drove in a run on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit in half.

Steven Bumbry then tied the game up at two in the seventh with just his second home run of the season.

Luke Wertz (3-1) relieved Shreve and threw two hit-less innings to drop his ERA to 0.66. Demarva All-Star closer Josh Dowdy (1-2) gave up the winning run in the tenth after stranding a runner on second in the ninth.

Sunday at 5:05 pm RHP Trevor May (1-0, 6.00) makes his second start of 2010 in Lakewood. He'll go up against Shorebirds Matt Hobgood (3-7, 4.41).
