Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

AUGUSTA, GA - Despite a career-high ten strikeouts from Justin Collop and another seven strong innings, the Kannapolis Intimidators fall to the Augusta GreenJackets 3-2 and again fail to win back-to-back games.

Collop (5-7) allowed a first inning run after Evan Crawford scored on a single by Nick Liles after Crawford advanced to second on a stolen base and third on a wild pitch to give the GreenJackets (9-8) a 1-0 lead.

The Intimidators (6-11) then took the lead in the third inning, after they left the bases loaded with one out in the second, with two runs, after a single by Mike Richard led the inning off, Brady Shoemaker hit his third double in two games to put runners in scoring position and a wild pitch and an Ian Gac infield groundout scored both runs to give the Intimidators a 2-1 lead.

The game remained at 2-1, as Brian Irving went a season-long 7.1 innings allowing just two runs, until the sixth inning. In the sixth off Collop, Ryan Cavan led off with a single and scored on a one-out double by Luke Anders. Then, with two outs, Hector Sanchez singled to shallow center to bring home Anders, the game winning run.

After Irving (5-2) Jose Casilla worked a five-out save, the rest of the eighth and the ninth to secure the win. The Intimidators have not won back-to-back games since May 30th and will look to try and get one tomorrow as Matt Wickswat makes his return to the starting rotation, he will be opposed by Chris Heston at 5:35 in Augusta.
