Jam Grind out Close Win over Spurs

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF., January 8, 2015 - The Bakersfield Jam (14-7) defeated the Austin Spurs (13-6), 103-102, Thursday night at the Dignity Health Event Center.

Down 49-48 in the first half, the Jam got hot in the third and had a 12-point lead (70-58) at the 3:52 mark. Bakersfield's double-digit lead would slip away late in the quarter and went into the final frame with a two-point advantage (74-72).

In the fourth, there were seven lead changes and five ties. Trailing 102-96 with 2:31 left in the game, Bakersfield went on quick 6-0 run and tied the game at 102 with 1:34 to go. The biggest play came in the final seconds when Renaldo Major stole the ball from Austin, which ultimately led to a Joe Jackson made free-throw and a Jam victory.

Casey Prather set season highs with 22 points (9/12 FGs), four assists and three steals. Earl Barron recorded 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Jackson scored 20 points in 23 minutes of action. Jamil Wilson added 14 points and Xavier Munford tallied 10 points.

JaMychal Green led the way for Austin with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Jonathan Simmons posted 20 points and 10 rebounds to go along with nine assists. Adreian Payne, on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Both teams battle again tomorrow, Friday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
