January 9, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania, Friday, January 9, 2015 - The Erie BayHawks (7-13) were defeated at home tonight by the Canton Charge (13-8) 108-101 after Erie was held scoreless in the only overtime period. Seth Curry finished with 30 points as Drew Crawford followed with 19.

The Charge took advantage of Erie's 35% shooting and built an 11 point first quarter lead behind Michael Dunigan's 10 points. Erie's newly acquired guard Leslie McDonald from the University of North Carolina recorded his first NBA Development League minutes in the first frame.

Despite an Erie 6-0 run to start the second quarter, Canton was able to maintain their lead as they would answer many BayHawks buckets. Crawford's jumper with less than three minutes to play in the half cut the game to two, but Canton used a steady 7-4 run to end the quarter and lead 56-51. Canton's front court made of up Arinze Onuaku and Michael Dunigan caused problems for the BayHawks all night as they each scored 14 in the first half.

The BayHawks were able to cut their deficit to three on four separate occasions and finally took the lead on a Curry 3 with a minute left in the third quarter. Erie shot a ridiculous 75% (12-16) in the third frame as Curry and Crawford continued their scoring consistency, tallying seven points each. Brandon Paul for the Charge had his best quarter of the game with 13 points.

The fourth quarter was a back and forth battle that featured four lead changed and five ties. Curry was able to break a 5-0 Charge run with over four minutes to play with his fourth three of the game to cut the Charge lead to two. Two Siva free throws completed Erie's own 5-0 run to tie it back up at 96. After Canton responded with three straight, Curry completed a four-point play after being fouled while shooting a three to give Erie a 100-99 lead. Jorge Gutierrez for the Charge answered back with a runner two possessions later to regain the lead. John Bohannon was only able to nail 1-2 free throws to tie the game after being fouled on a defensive rebound. On the ensuing possession, it was Paul who took the game winning shot for Canton, but it came up wide right. The BayHawks headed to overtime for the first time this season.

Paul, as if to avenge his final miss in regulation, scored an and-one to go up by four with 27.4 seconds left in overtime. It turned out to be the final punch of the game as Erie was held scoreless and eventually fell by seven.

Behind Curry and Crawford was John Bohannon who scored 16 points off the bench and pulled down a team season high 14 rebounds. Peyton Siva added 13 points and six assists. McDonald finished with eight in his NBA D-League debut. The BayHawks starting front court were outscored by Canton's 50-8.

Onuaku and Dunigan each finished with 25 points and combined for 18 boards. Paul had 24 points with 18 coming in the second half and overtime. Gutierrez returned for the Charge tonight and tallied 14 of his own.

The Erie BayHawks will play host again tomorrow night at 7:00 PM for the second time this year vs. the Grand Rapids Drive. Erie then travels to Sioux Falls to take on the Skyforce on Tuesday before heading to Santa Cruz, CA to participate in the NBA D-League Showcase.
