Akron RubberDucks News Release
Cleveland Indians pitcher Jake Westbrook will make a rehab start for the Aeros against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Thursday night, June 11 at Canal Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as Westbrook continues to rehab from "Tommy John" surgery last year. It's also Thirsty Thursday at Canal Park - $1.00 12 ounce draft beers and fountain sodas from 6:05 p.m. until the end of the third inning.
Westbrook made his first rehab start Saturday for the Aeros at Altoona and pitched well, surrendering no runs on one hit and striking out one in three innings of work. Westbrook is becoming quite familiar to the Aeros and their fans, as he also made rehab starts in Akron in 2007 and 2008.
A first-round pick (21st overall) of the Colorado Rockies in 1996, Westbrook is 63-64 in his Major League career with a 4.31 ERA in 200 appearances (160 starts). He was acquired by Cleveland in a trade with the New York Yankees in 2000, and won 44 games for the Tribe from 2004-06 while pitching at least 200 innings all three years. Arguably the best season for the native of Athens, GA came in 2004 when he was 14-9 with the third-best ERA in the American League (3.38) and was named to the AL All-Star team.
The Aeros are home tonight at 7:05 p.m., opening a three game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Josh Tomlin (5-4, 4.75 ERA) will go for Akron with lefty Luis Perez (4-5, 3.80 ERA) taking the hill for the Fisher Cats. It's Two for Tuesday at Canal Park, with buy one, get one free tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and ice cream scoops. The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at (330) 253-5151.
