Altoona Curve News Release

NEW BRITAIN, Ct -Curve starter Mike Crotta had an outing he'd like to forget, as the usually reliable right-hander allowed a season-high seven runs as Altoona dropped the first of three games to the New Britain Rock Cats 7-2 on Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium.

The Rock Cats scored three runs off of Crotta (3-3) in the second and then grabbed a single run in the third frame to take an early 4-0 edge.

Altoona would chip away at the deficit plating one in the top of the fourth when Jeff Corsaletti triple home Jim Negrych to bring the Curve within three runs, 4-1.

New Britain immediately responded in their half of the fourth scoring three runs off Crotta to grab a 7-1 edge. Highlighting the inning for the Rock Cats was a two-run home run off the bat of Matt Moses.

Altoona would plate their final run of the game in the top of the seventh when Jamie Romak's sacrifice fly that brought home Jason Delaney.

New Britain righty Jeff Manship (5-4) allowed just two runs on five hits over 7.0 innings to notch the win.

Altoona will look to even the series on Wednesday morning in the second game of the scheduled trio at 10:35 a.m. when they send lefty Daniel Moskos (3-4, 4.11) to the hill. New Britain will counter with right-hander Jay Rainville (2-2, 5.23). Radio coverage of Wednesday's contest will begin at 10:20 a.m. on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Curve Radio Network affiliate stations.
