Horne on Disabled List

(Reading, PA)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Alan Horne has been placed on the Disabled List (retroactive to June 8th). RHP Eric Wordekemper has been transferred from roster of the Staten Island Yankees (SS) to Trenton's roster. And, RHP Humberto Sanchez has been activated from Trenton's Disabled List and transferred to Tampa (High-A).

Horne has appeared in five games (four starts) for Trenton this season, and is 0-3 with a 11.15 ERA. Horne was activated from the Disabled List on June 2nd, after being placed on the disabled list on May 15 (retroactive to May 13th).

In 2008, Horne made eight starts for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) and went 2-3 with a 5.63 ERA. He was placed on the disabled list twice last season, once from 4/11-6/8 with a biceps strain, and also from 7/2-28 with a cracked fingernail. He also made three starts with Tampa, and had a 0-1 record with a 23.14 ERA. In 2007, Horne was named the Eastern League "Pitcher of the Year". He was 12-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 27 starts for Trenton. He was originally drafted in the 11th round of the 2005 draft out of the University of Florida.

Wordekemper is 0-0 with a 1.08 ERA in eight games for the Thunder this season, with one save. He has also spent time this season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (AAA). He was 1-0 with a 8.10 ERA in six games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Last season, Wordekemper had a 3-2 record with a 3.93 ERA in 33 games (one start) for the Thunder, including six saves. He also appeared in two games for Tampa (High-A). He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 46th round of the 2005 draft out of Creighton University.

Sanchez has been on Trenton's Disabled List since May 5th. He was re-signed by the Yankees on May 1st, after being released by the Yankees April 25th. He split the 2008 season between the New York Yankees, Trenton, Tampa, and the GCL Yankees. He was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two relief appearances for the Yankees. He made one start for the Thunder. He also appeared in a game for the Thunder in the Eastern League Championship Series vs. Akron. He made two starts for Tampa, and he was 0-1 with a 2.31 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) for the GCL Yankees. Following the season, he pitched for the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League. He was acquired from the Tigers along with RHP Kevin Whelan and RHP Anthony Claggett in exchange for OF Gary Sheffield 11/10/06. He was originally selected by the Tigers in the 31st round of the 2001 draft.

Trenton opens a three-game series tonight against the Reading Phillies (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (3-2, 3.24) will start for Trenton against Reading RHP Kyle Drabek (1-0, 0.00). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Friday night to start a series against the Binghamton Mets (Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets).
