Reddick Activated from the Disabled List

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Josh Reddick has been activated from the disabled list. Sea Dogs' outfielder Aaron Bates was transferred to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, June 8th.

Reddick, 22 years-old, has been sidelined since May 1st with a strained oblique. Reddick has appeared in 17 games for the Sea Dogs this season hitting .288 (21-for 73) with 17 runs scored, six home runs and seven RBI. Reddick is rated by Baseball America as fifth ranked prospect in the organization. Baseball America also rates Reddick as having the "Best Outfield Arm" in the Red Sox minor league system. This is Reddick's first full season at the Double-A level. In 2008 he spent time at Single-A Greenville, Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland, he combined to hit .311 with 150 hits, 89 runs, 19 doubles, 12 triples, 23 home runs and 91 RBI. Reddick was drafted by the Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2006 First-year Player Draft.

Aaron Bates, the Eastern League Player of the Month for May, was transferred to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, June 8th. The 25 year-old Bates went 0-4 with a RBI in his Triple-A debut on Monday against the Durham Bulls at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Bates appeared in 52 games for the Sea Dogs this season hitting .340 with seven home runs and 39 RBI. Bates leads all Red Sox Minor Leaguers in average (.333), RBI (40), and is tied for the lead in home runs (7). He ranked among the Eastern League leaders in hits (70-1st), runs scored (41-1st), batting average (.340-4th), and RBI (38-tied 4th). Bates is also tied for the longest on base streak in the league this season, reaching in 23 straight games from April 16th-May 14th.

Bates was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 4th through May 10th and May 25th through May 31st. Bates hit .370 (40-for-108) with seven doubles, six home runs, 28 RBI, 22 runs scored, 10 walks, a .456 on-base percentage and a .602 slugging percentage in 28 games during the month of May to earn Eastern League Player of the Month honors. His 28 RBI during the month was tied for the most in the league and also tied a franchise record that is also held by Kevin Millar (1997) and Ross Gload (1999).

In parts of three seasons with the Portland Sea Dogs, Bates appeared in 203 games hitting .284 (214-for754). He is the Sea Dogs career franchise record holder in hit by pitches (29). He also ranks in the top 20 in several offensive categories including RBI (120- 10th), doubles (51- 11th), hits (214- 14th) home runs (22- 14th), and runs scored (118- 15th).

The Portland Sea Dogs begin a six game road trip Tuesday night with 7:05 PM game against the Erie SeaWolves at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Tuesday, June 16th at 7:00 PM against the Erie SeaWolves. Tickets are available for all remaining 2009 Sea Dogs' home games.
