
Jake Gannon Signed to AHL Deal

Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the club has signed defenseman Jake Gannon to a standard player contract for the remainder of the 2010-11 season. As part of the transaction he has been released from his professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the Rivermen.
Gannon, 24, was signed to three separate PTO's this season and has appeared in a total of 20 games. He has recorded three points (all assists), four penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating which is second among Rivermen defensemen. He spent 15 games with Peoria between he was signed on Nov. 5 and Dec. 8. He also appeared in one game on Jan. 22.
A native of Roselle, Ill., Gannon has spent the rest of the season with the ECHL Utah Grizzlies, where he serves as the team captain, and collected seven points (one goal, six assists) in his 16 games. He served as an alternate captain at the ECHL All-Star Game in Bakersfield, Calif. on Jan. 27.
Last season, Gannon also split time between the AHL and ECHL. Under contract with the New York Islanders, he appeared in 26 games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) where he had two goals and two assists. In 38 games with the Grizzlies he collected six points (two goals, four assists).
The 6-foot-1-inch, 192-pound defenseman played four seasons at Colorado College (2005-09) before turning pro with Utah.
The Rivermen faceoff against the IceHogs in Rockford tonight at 6:35 p.m. The Rivermen are hosting an official viewing party at Kouri's Pub on N. Sterling Ave in Peoria. The game can also be heard locally on 96.5 ESPN in Peoria and online through www.rivermen.net.
