Statement from Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson today released the following statement on goaltender Alex Stalock.
"On Feb. 14, Alex underwent successful surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. to repair a laceration to his left leg, suffered as a result of being stepped on by a skate in the Worcester Sharks Feb. 4 game against the Manchester Monarchs.
"He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season. There is no immediate timetable for Alex to resume skating as our immediate focus will be on monitoring Alex as he recovers and begins his rehabilitation.
"We are very fortunate to have such a top-notch hospital located near Alex's home and want to thank everyone at the Mayo Clinic and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester who have assisted in Alex's treatment thus far. Alex has always been a fierce competitor and we anticipate he will attack this setback in the same manner."
Stalock, 23, earned the win in his first NHL game on Feb. 1 making nine saves as the Sharks overcame a three-goal deficit against the Phoenix Coyotes.
This season with the Worcester Sharks, he has posted a 19-17-4 record with a 2.63 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. In 2009-10, Stalock set an AHL rookie record by recording 39 wins, played in the 2010 AHL All-Star Game and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team.
The 6-foot, 185-pound native of St. Paul, Minnesota was selected by San Jose in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
