Syracuse Crunch News Release

Glens Falls, NY (February 16, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch held a one-goal lead with just over five minutes to play, but gave up three unanswered tallies in a 5:04 span late in the third period, including an empty-netter with 13 seconds left to send the club to a 4-2 loss tonight at the Glens Falls Civic Center, its third straight and sixth in seven meetings this season against Adirondack.

Eric Wellwood opened the game's scoring when his sharp-angle shot slipped by J.P. Levasseur at the 18:37 mark of the first to put Adirondack up 1-0.

The Crunch answered back with a late-period goal of their own in the second frame when Nick Bonino sent a great cross-ice feed from the left wing boards over to Patrick Maroon, and Maroon snapped a bid by Johan Backlund to make it 1-1 with just 52 seconds left in the second.

The score stayed that way until the 5:57 mark of the third, when Matt Beleskey capitalized on a bad line change on the power play by Adirondack and broke down the right side.

Beleskey charged to the net and whipped a backhand pass over to Nicolas Deschamps, who pounded the puck into the open side past Backlund to give the Crunch a 2-1 lead.

The Crunch looked to have everything under control until an unlucky bounce led to Adirondack knotting the game at 2-2 at the 14:43 mark of the third.

The Crunch had control of the puck and tried to send it around the boards behind their own net, but the disk hit off a referee's skate, which allowed Adirondack to keep the puck in the offensive zone after they recovered it.

The disk was eventually dished out to Logan Stephenson at the point, who let go a wrister that found its way through a screen past Levasseur.

That started the avalanche, as former Crunch center Rob Bordson slammed home a centering feed from Denis Hamel that trickled over the goal line just over two minutes later to give Adirondack a 3-2 lead.

Ben Holmstrom added an empty-netter to seal the game at the 19:46 mark.

The Crunch will look for some home cooking, as they begin a five-game home stand with a pair of contests this weekend against San Antonio on Friday, February 18 and Rochester on Saturday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena.
