Bulldogs Dropped by Griffins 5-3

Grand Rapids, MI - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins 5-3 on Wednesday night. Dustin Boyd assisted on two of the Bulldogs goals, his first two assists as a member of Hamilton, but it was not enough as the 'Dogs dropped their fifth straight game. Jamie Tardif scored two goals and Jamie Johnson had a goal and an assist to lead the Griffins to victory.

The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 12:50 of the first frame with a power-play goal. Boyd sent a pass to Mathieu Carle, who had skated into the slot. Carle wristed a shot that beat Grand Rapids starting goaltender Jordan Pearce.

The Griffins tied the game 1-1 at 16:30 of the opening stanza. Francis Pare sent the puck to Jamie Johnson, who skated in front of the net and fired a shot that was stopped by Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. Johnson grabbed his own rebound before flipping the puck over the left pad of Sanford and into the net.

The 'Dogs took a 2-1 lead at 18:52 of the first period. Boyd gave the puck to Palushaj, who skated to the left corner of the Griffins' zone. Palushaj sent the puck to the front of the net, where it bounced off the skate of Pearce and trickled over the goal line.

Grand Rapids scored their second goal of the game at 10:18 of the middle frame. Brendan Smith sent the puck into the slot where Jamie Tardif was positioned. Tardif swatted the puck past Sanford and into the back of the net.

While on a five-on-three power play, the Griffins took a 3-2 lead at 4:01 of the third stanza. Cory Emmerton received the puck from Johnson before skating into the high slot. Emmerton released a shot that sailed past the glove of Sanford and into the top of the net. Tardif added his second goal of the game at 8:04 while on the power play. Tomas Tatar received the puck from Travis Ehrhardt before blasting a shot on net. The rebound bounced out to Tardif, who slid the puck past Sanford and into the net.

The 'Dogs made it a 4-3 game at 16:31 of the final frame. J.T. Wyman sent the puck to the right point, where Frederic St. Denis was stationed. St. Denis blasted a shot through traffic and past Pearce.

Tatar added an empty net goal at 19:16 to seal the win for the Griffins.

The Bulldogs will meet the Toronto Marlies on Friday, February 18th for a 7:00 p.m. game at Ricoh Coliseum. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
