
Pirates Blast Bruins

Portland, ME ¬" Nick Crawford and Luke Adam each recorded two goals and an assist and David Leggio made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Portland Pirates blanked the Providence Bruins 7-0 in an American Hockey League game played this evening in front of 3,369 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Maxime Legault, Mark Mancari, and Jacob Lagace also contributed to the scoring effort with a goal each as the Pirates won their fourth straight game and boosted their record to 33-15-4-1.
Providence suffered its seventh straight defeat and dropped to 23-28-3-1 on the season.
Portland ¬â¢s scoring blitz began early in the first period as Crawford beat Providence goaltender Andy Dalton at 4:09. Legault gave the hosts a two-goal cushion with just over three minutes remaining in the period on a feed from Brian Roloff and Mancari for his 10th of the season. During the second period, Crawford and Adam each tabbed a power-play goal as the Pirates led 4-0 heading into the final frame on only 13 shots. At the 1:47 mark of the third period, Mancari upped his league leading goal total to 30, also setting a new career high by passing his previous high mark of 29 set during the 2008-09 season with Portland. Adam put the Pirates up by six at 9:02, and Lagace rounded out the scoring with the third Portland power-play goal of the night with just under seven minutes remaining.
The Pirates out-shot the Bruins 27-23 as Leggio won his fifth straight start, improving his record to 15-4-0. Andy Dalton dropped his fifth straight start as his record fell to 7-9-0.
The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were all from the Pirates: 1. Crawford, 2. Leggio and 3. Adam.
Friday night the Pirates will be back in action as they travel down to the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI for a rematch with the Bruins at 7:05 p.m. The Pirates will continue on the road the following night when they travel up to Manchester for a Saturday night, 7:00 p.m. showdown with the first-place Monarchs. The games can be heard live on 95.5 News Talk WLOB or on-line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes prior to the opening faceoff.
The Pirates will be back in action at the Civic Center on Monday, February 21st at 1:00 p.m. for a special President ¬â¢s Day matinee against the Connecticut Whale. L.L.
