Utah Grizzlies News Release
Boise, Idaho - The ECHL announced today that Utah captain Jake Gannon has been named an alternate captain for the ECHL All-Star Classic which will take place in Bakersfield on Wednesday.
Gannon will join Cincinnati's Brian O'Hanley along with Idaho's Mark Derlago who will serve as the captain for the ECHL.
The Utah captain, who turns 24 Tuesday, returned to the Grizzlies lineup last night following an injury and registered two assists and a plus-three as Utah beat the Steelheads 4-3 in a shootout. The second assist came on a shot that was knocked home by Simon Ferguson to tie the score at three with 18 seconds left.
In ten games this year, the Colorado native has one goal and six assists for seven points. He had been on IR since December 13 and also played 15 games with the AHL's Peoria Rivermen this season totaling a plus-four and one assist.
Gannon split his rookie season in 2009-2010 between Utah and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He played collegiately at Colorado College where he left as the team's captain.
Utah continues their Boise trip Friday and Saturday in Idaho. Face-off each evening is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
The Grizzlies return home Friday, January 28 with Ontario. It is Maverik Night, with all tickets in the arena available for $5 when fans present a receipt from Maverik at the arena box office.
There have been 52 players from the All-Star Game who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 36 since 2002 when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.
