Steelheads Fall to Utah in Shootout, 4-3

BOISE, ID- The Idaho Steelheads (17-16-9) fell at home in a shootout to the Utah Grizzlies (22-14-4) by a 4-3 score. Evan Barlow scored twice for the Steelheads, giving him five goals on the season.

Evan Barlow gave Idaho a 1-0 lead in the first period at 6:29 when he tapped home a loose puck at the side of the Utah net with assists going to Marty Flichel and Mark Derlago. The power play goal was Barlow's fourth of the season.

In the second period, Brent Gauvreau tied the game for Utah as he tipped a Kevin Deeth pass by Idaho goalie Tyler Beskorowany at 4:45; Beskorowany was returned to the Steelheads prior to the game from the American Hockey League's Texas Stars.

Tom May walked in on the Idaho net and sent a puck top-shelf to beat Beskorowany and gain the lead for Utah- 2-1 - at 13:40 of the second period, before Michael Neal tied the game at 2-2 for Idaho. Neal redirected an Aki Seitsonen blast from the top of the left circle. Flichel also assisted on Neal's goal; his sixth of the campaign.

Evan Barlow gave Idaho a 3-2 lead at 2:33 of the third period when he picked up the rebound from a Matt Case shot and banged it home for his fifth of the season. Case's assist was his first point as a Steelhead in his first game as a Steelhead. Cody Purves also assisted on Barlow's tally.

Simon Ferguson scored to tie the game for Utah with 18 seconds remaining when he tipped a Jake Gannon point shot to make the score 3-3 and force overtime. Overtime didn't determine a winner, but Utah won in the shootout frame.

Beskorowany stopped 20 of 23 shots for Idaho; he is now 4-3-4. Andrew Engelage stopped 30 of 33 for Utah. He is 13-7-3.

Idaho and Utah will battle January 21st and 22nd at Qwest Arena.
