Jackson Called up to AHL Peoria

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Jim Jackson has been called up to the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League.

Jackson skated in three games with Gwinnett posting a pair of assists for the Gladiators. He had an even, plus-minus ranking and did not record any penalty minutes with Gwinnett.

Jackson has appeared in 32 games this season with Peoria posting 2 goals and 10 assists for 12 points for the Rivermen. He had a four game assist streak (4a) with Peoria to open the season and had back to back helpers on November 21st and 22nd with the Rivermen.

The Marquette, Michigan native skated in four of the Gladiators first five seasons in Gwinnett including the Gladiators inaugural season in 2003-04. Last year, Jackson split time with Peoria, Gwinnett and AHL Manitoba. He had a combined 11 goals and 9 assists for 20 points in 51 professional games last year.

He had a career season last year with the Gladiators posting a career high 18 goals and 38 points in 71 games. In 4 Kelly Cup Playoff Games in 2007, Jackson collected a goal and an assist for 2 points for the Gladiators. He also appeared in one game during the regular season with the Grand Rapids Griffins during the 2006-07 season.

Jackson appeared in 52 games with Kaufbeuren in Germany during the 2005-06 season. He notched 4 goals and 26 assists in 30 games.

During his first two professional seasons with the Gladiators, Jackson notched 24 goals and 38 assists in 128 games. He also represented the Gladiators in the 2005 ECHL All Star Game in Reading, Pennsylvania.

In 153 career collegiate games at Northern Michigan University, Jackson posted 22 goals and 64 assists for 86 points.

The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on Friday, March 13th as they travel to Charleston to take on the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. Catch all the play by play action in Friday's game on WDUN, News Talk 550.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 21 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
