Idaho Steelheads News Release

West Valley City, UT- The Idaho Steelheads (36-18-4) went beyond regulation time with the Utah Grizzlies (23-22-16) once again, and picked up a 2-1 win before a crowd of 3,050 at the E Center of West Valley City.

The Steelheads outshot the Grizzlies 11-3 in the first period, and Idaho's Matt Climie and Utah's Mike Mole were both perfect in the nets in the opening frame.

The score remained tied until moments after the game was delayed for several minutes due to an ice repair when Utah's Mark Pavli scored the game's first goal at 9:32, putting Utah up 1-0. Mike Walsh and Scott Thauwald added the helpers. At 17:24, Brent Shepheard put the Steelheads on the board with a shorthanded goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Adam Welch.

The third period did not yield any scoring, so it was on to overtime for the two teams. Again, overtime did not dissolve matters, and the Steelheads and Grizzlies found themselves shootout-bound for the fifth time this season. In the shootout, nine rounds were necessary before Sean Garrity, in his second professional game, netted the shootout winner for Idaho. The Steelheads improved to 5-2 in shootouts this season with tonight's victory.

Matt Climie stopped 28 of 29 in overtime to improve to 22-10-1 in his first professional season. Mike Mole suffered the loss, falling to 15-19-12; Mole steered away 25 of 26 in the game.

The Steelheads are back in action Friday night in Las Vegas.
