Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

BILOXI, MS - Ryan Munce stopped 48 shots through regulation and overtime and then stymied all three shooters in the shootout as the Mississippi Sea Wolves defeated the South Carolina Stingrays 3-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Wednesday night.

South Carolina got out to a 1-0 lead in the first period when rookie Nikita Kashirsky scored his first professional goal, rifling a kooky bounce off of the end boards past Munce for his first professional goal at 16:37.

The Stingrays grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second when Jeff Corey pumped the rebound of Lyon Messier's shot into the net at 10:46 of the second frame.

The Sea Wolves began mounting a comeback early in the third, controlling play in the offensive zone until Mike Berry found Mathieu Melanson open on the far post with a no look pass that Melanson tapped home for his 27th goal of the season at 6:04. Alex Parent drew the Sea Wolves even at 11:56 of the third when he grabbed the puck behind the net and made a wraparound move that fooled Stingrays netminder Jonathan Boutin at 11:56.

Munce made 16 saves through the third period and overtime, before the Sea Wolves scored on their first three shots in the shootout, while Munce denied all three South Carolina shooters to earn the win.

The next broadcast of Sea Wolves hockey is Friday when the Sea Wolves host the Florida Everblades at 7:05 CT, and will be heard on the B2 Networks and at www.msseawolves.com. The pre-game show presented by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will begin 15 minutes before the opening faceoff!
