Jackals win in Shootout

Elmira, NY- First Arena was electric tonight after the Elmira Jackals beat the Trenton Devils 4-3 in a shootout. Last night the Jackals beat the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 in the final twenty seconds of overtime, tonight it would take a shootout and stellar goaltending to seal the deal.

The Jackals got things rolling with a Brandon Roach Goal at the 8:55 mark of the first. Pierre-Luc Faubert and Benoit Doucet would be credited with assists.The Jackals kept the wheels spinning into the second period getting goal at the 6:04 mark. Steve Yetman fed Ryan Gibbons with a pass, who then found an open Kaleb Betts for his second goal of the season. The Jackals would then add to the 2-0 lead at the 17:25 mark of the second on an unassisted goal from Bruce Watson.

With the Jackals up 3-0, Mitch O'Keefe would be tested time and time again. He was equal to 24 shots through the first two periods. In the third period the Devils would find a way to beat O'Keefe. Trevor Kell scored at the 9:00 mark and at the 16:36 mark, Trenton then got the equalizer at 18:24 of the third on a goal from Eric Castonguay.

Just like the night prior we would go to a sudden death overtime. The fans were treated to a back and fourth bout with the shots even at 3-3 at the end of the five minute frame. A shootout would be needed to find the winner. O'Keefe made five saves on six shots while Trenton goalie Jason Smith was beaten by Benoit Doucet and Josh Aspenlind.
