ELMIRA, NY - The Trenton Devils scored three goals in the third period to earn a point, yet fell to the Elmira Jackals on the road Saturday night in a shootout, 4-3.

Trevor Kell scored the first two goals for Trenton, the first when he slammed a rebound home with 11 minutes left in regulation and the second goal came on the power play with 3:24 to go.

A double-minor for roughing by Ryan Gibbons gave the Devils a late power play, and Eric Castonguay capitalized with his third goal of the season with 1:36 remaining to force overtime.

After a frenzied overtime, the Jackals won the shootout on Josh Aspenlind's tally in the sixth round.

The Jackals jumped on the scoreboard with a slap shot from the point by Brandon Roach at 8:55 of the first period.

Kaleb Betts then deflected a shot in front of goaltender Jason Smith 6:04 into the second to double Elmira's lead. Another goal was added later in the period by Bruce Watson, making the score 3-0 for the Jackals.

The Devils finished the power play 2-for-10, while Jason Smith made 20 saves for the Devils in a losing cause.

The Trenton Devils go back home to take on the Idaho Steelheads for the first time in team history. The puck drops Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Fans can listen or watch the broadcast on www.trentondevils.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
