Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Spencer Carbery and Matt Stefanishion scored twice as Fresno held Alaska to just 18 shots in a 5-1 win before 4,369 Friday night at Sullivan Arena.

The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Falcons in Anchorage, dating to December 6, 2006.

Carbery's first goal came just 42 seconds into the contest, when, after a routine Fresno dump-in, the puck took a live hop off the dashers past Aces starter J.P. Lamoureux, and trickled loose in the slot, where Carbery beat an Alaskan defender to the puck and flipped the gift into the net. His second goal came five minutes later on a tip-in after a shot from the point by Matt O'Dette.

Trailing 2-0, the Aces got on the board after receiving a two-man advantage, as Josh Soares rifled a wrist shot over Fresno goalie Joe Fallon's left shoulder from the right circle at 11:57 of the first period, his fifth goal in three games and sixth of the season. But Alaska rarely threatened thereafter, and fell behind 3-1 five minutes into the second period when Stefanishion wheeled and fired a loose puck in the slot behind Lamoureux. His second goal came as a result of a second effort by Jarret Konkle, who kept alive another bouncing puck in the slot for Stefanishion to lift over Lamoureux with 7:53 left in the middle frame.

The Falcons pushed their lead to 5-1 on a power play goal by Mike Radja at 7:50 of the final period, assisted by Konkle, and limited the Aces to just five shots over the final 20 minutes. Fallon made 17 saves to run his personal record to 3-0 and Fresno's to 4-0 for the first time in its ECHL history.

Alaska drops to 3-2 and into a four-way tie for second place in the West Division behind Phoenix, while the Falcons remain the only unbeaten, untied club among 23 ECHL teams. The Aces get another crack at their longtime (1995) rivals tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m., with Sunday's series finale scheduled for 5:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans to pass through the gates on Sunday will receive a "Boomer" coloring book, courtesy of the Department of Public Safety, and Fred Meyer presents the first "Skate with the Aces" immediately after the contest. Both games will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
