Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - What started out as a lopsided game ended as a nail-biter, with the Mississippi Sea Wolves battling in the third period and nearly tying the game with an extra attacker but ultimately falling to the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-4 on Saturday night at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Brandon Kaleniecki converted a pass from Ryan Mahrle into a 1-0 Gladiator lead at the 5:44 mark of the first period. At 9:56, Gwinnett's Andy Brandt rifled a one-time off of a Bruce Graham pass past Sea Wolves netminder Ryan Munce for the Gladiators' first power-play goal of the game.
Travis Lisabeth picked up his 100th goal in a Sea Wolves uniform as he fired a shot past the Gladiators' Kevin Nastiuk at 3:58 of the second period. Pat Bateman would restore Gwinnett's two-goal lead with his second goal of the season on the power play at 6:38 of the second period. Brad Schell would give the Gladiators a 4-1 lead going into the locker room when he buried a breakaway through Ryan Munce's legs at 13:56.
Mississippi cut the Gladiators lead to two when Frederik Cabana scored his third goal in his last two games at 5:25 of the second, firing a shot over Nastiuk's glove.
Bruce Graham hammered home his fourth goal of the season and extended his scoring streak against the Sea Wolves to three games when he scored at 6:39 of the third period.
Matt Deschamps would cut the visitors' lead to two with his first of the season at 12:48 of the third.
With a two-man advantage, Jason Tejchma found a loose puck in a goalmouth schmozzle and poked it in for his first goal of the season at 16:18. Despite a late flurry of offensive pressure, Gwinnett held on for the victory.
Ryan Munce made 31 saves on 36 shots, taking the loss, and the Sea Wolves power play was 1-for-5.
The Sea Wolves return home on Wednesday night against the Augusta Lynx. All fans who bring a used election yard sign to the box office will be able to receive a discounted seat! Get your tickets today by calling (228) 275-WOLF!
