Elmira Jackals News Release

Trenton, N.J. - The Elmira Jackals (18-12-5-0) scored twice in the final 4:30 on Friday night at the Sun National Bank Center and held on to beat the Trenton Devils (13-18-0-3), 4-3. The win was the second-straight for the Jackals in which their game-winning tally came in the final minutes of regulation.

The Devils struck first at 11:11 of the first period when Jeff Prough snuck in front from behind the net and slipped the puck past Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau to make it 1-0.

Elmira scored a pair of unanswered goals, however, to take its first lead of the game. A.J. Perry backhanded a puck off a Yannick Tifu feed past Devils netminder Shane Connelly at 15:13 of the first to tie the game, 1-1, while R.J. Anderson drove in a blue-line bid on the power play at 10:57 of the middle frame to make it 2-1 in favor of the Jackals.

Dan Charleston's shot from the left side of the crease found the top, left corner of the net at 12:40 of the second to even the score, 2-2.

For the third-straight road game, the Jackals entered the final period tied with their opponent, with the club breaking through first for the third-straight time with the go-ahead goal. Elmira is now 4-1-1-0 in games that were tied entering the final period and is 7-2 in one-goal regulation decisions.

The latest edition of Jackals late-game dramatics started with Dustin Cameron finding Corey Cowick in the slot from behind the net and Cowick putting the Jackals up 3-2 at 15:30 with a wrist shot that went past the stick of Connelly. The heroics continued with Andrew Sweetland wristing in his 16th goal of the season, and ninth against Trenton, from the right circle to make it 4-2 at 17:34. The goal was Sweetland's first since Dec. 11.

Kory Nagy would score for the T-Devils on a loose puck in front at 17:57 of the final period to make it 4-3, giving Sweetland his team-leading fourth game winner of the season.

Cousineau stopped 33 of 36 shots as he upped his record to 11-6-4-0. Connelly, with 34 saves, fell to 2-8-1-1.

The Jackals host the Reading Royals on Saturday night at First Arena, with the puck dropping at 7:35 p.m. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
