Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (20-16-1-0, 41pts) rallied to tie the game late in the third and outlasted the Ontario Reign (12-22-0-2, 25pts) with a 5-4 shootout victory in front of 4,447 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday afternoon.
It didn't take long for the Condors to jump out to a 1-0 lead. F Andrew Ianiero blasted a shot off the left post, and C Pete Zingoni was there to knock home the rebound to put Bakersfield up 1-0 on the power play at 2:54 of the first. Exactly six minutes later, RW Stephane Goulet snapped a 9-game goal drought and buried a wrister past G Beau Erickson. D J.F. David increased the lead to 3-0 once again on the power play at 11:51, and the Condors lead 3-0 after the first period.
The Reign came right back in the second, scoring two goals in the first 3:43 to cut the Condors lead to 3-2. C Aaron Lewadniuk stepped free on a breakaway, but was slashed by David, resulting in a penalty shot and a five-minute major penalty. G Peter Hirsch denied RW Alex Bourret, but C Micael Pelech scored at the tail end of the power play to even the score at 3-3 after two.
D Shawn Germain put the Reign ahead for the first time in the game when he broke a 3-3 tie with just 2:47 left in the contest. But the Condors power play came through for the third time in the game when Zingoni picked up his second of the night to send the game past regulation tied 4-4.
The Condors looked to win the game in OT when a shot from C Adam Naglich beat Erickson. The goal was disallowed, as RW Pascal Morency was ruled to be in the crease. Bakersfield eventually won the game in a shootout, as Hirsch stopped three of the four shots he faced and the Condors scored on three of their four chances.
