Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, returned to First Arena last weekend and opened a four-game home stand by splitting a pair of North Division matches. Picking up two points in two games, the Jackals moved into a tie with Cincinnati for the North Division lead (53 points each)

The Chiefs scored on their first two shots on goal in the opening 3:26 of the game to lead Johnstown to its second win in as many tries at First Arena. PIERRE-LUC FAUBERT scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season and BENOIT DOUCET notched a pair of assists, but the Jackals were hurt by an ineffective power play that went 0-for-8 for the second consecutive contest.

CHAZ JOHNSON struck for his first professional hat trick with his 10th, 11th and 12th goals of the season in his return from Binghamton (AHL) while BOBBY ROBINS snapped a 20-game goal drought with his 8th of the year, the game-winner with 4:21 left in the game, to pull the Jackals into a share of first place in the North Division. JOEL MARTIN stopped 26 shots to become the first goaltender to hit 20 wins this season in the ECHL.

The Jackals look to remain perfect against the Nailers in the fifth and sixth installments of this nine-game seasons series. Greg Puhalski, having replaced head coach Glenn Patrick following a New Year's Eve loss to Dayton, has led the Nailers to a 4-0-1 mark since taking over the club.

Jackals Bites: The Jackals have home ice wins against each of their North Division opponents with the exception of last place Johnstown (0-1-0-1)...Friday's 4-3 loss to the Chiefs was the first one-goal regulation loss suffered by Elmira this season (10-1-1-2)...The regulation win over Cincinnati was just the second in seven tries against the Cyclones this season, but evened Elmira's overall mark against the North Division leaders at 3-3-0-1...Chaz Johnson's third goal of the night Saturday came on the power play, snapping an 0-for-18 skid...Johnson's hat trick was the first by a Jackals skater this season...The game-winner scored by Bobby Robins against the Cyclones was his first goal in the last 21 games, but was his team-high third game winner of the eight he has scored...It took three tries, but goaltender Joel Martin notched his 20th win of the season, the best total in the ECHL, and came in his 18th consecutive start...Benoit Doucet posted 23 of his 31 points in the second quarter...With a personal best three-assist effort Saturday, Doucet assumed the team lead in points with 34 (11+23=34)...The first half of the season came to a close with Friday loss to Johnstown in Game #36 of the year and the Jackals having picked up 51 standings points...A model of consistency comparing first and second quarters saw Elmira go 12-5-0-1 in the first 18 games and posting a 12-4-1-1 mark in the second 18-game segment...Active streaks heading into Game #38: Goals - Johnson 3 (5), Weller 3 (3); Points - Johnson 7 (8+3=11), Kudelka 4 (1+3=4), Weller 3 (3+3=6), Doucet 2 (0+5=5), Busby 2 (0+3=3), Faubert 2 (1+1=2); Goaltender starts - Martin 18; Penalty kills - 9.

WETM-2 will televise 11 Friday night contests live from First Arena with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night.
