Veideman scored his first career AHL goal and added an assist. Goaltender #35 JP Levasseur was the winning goaltender in the same 5-1 win over Lowell, stopping 18 of 19 shots. Hartford has won six out of a possible seven games so far in the month of January.

The week that was:
Tuesday, January 8, Charlotte Checkers 4 @ Augusta Lynx 6
Led by the return of forward #19 Aaron Slattengren and his four-point night, the Augusta Lynx came back from a 3-1 1st period deficit to defeat the Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday in Augusta by a score of 6-4. The 1st period was one the Lynx would like to forget, as Charlotte pumped in three goals, including two on the power play. The lone Lynx goal of the period was a beautiful give-and-go between #18 Igor Pohanka and #12 Ryan Dingle. Dingle, in his first game back from spending a month with Portland in the AHL, received a pass from Pohanka and slipped a backhand upstairs over Checkers goalie Matt Zaba. However, the Checkers outshot the Lynx 17-12 in the period, peppering Lynx goaltender #35 JP Levasseur. The 2nd period was an entirely different story for the Lynx. The defense and the goaltending solidified and the Lynx cut into the deficit with a goal from #17 Jeremy Schenderling, who's first try on net was directed wide, but after a great hold in at the point by #15 Eric Lundberg, the puck went low to Slattengren who found Schenderling on the back door. The Lynx quickly tied the game at 3-3 as Slattengren's chance down low went off the post, but the rebound came right to #7 James Brannigan who swooped in and scored his first goal in a Lynx uniform. Charlotte's power play magic continued against the league's best penalty kill in the Lynx with another power play goal to make it 4-3 as Chris Capraro scored his 2nd of the night as the Checkers scored on their first three power plays of the evening. The Lynx would come right back with Slattengren's first goal of the night, which was a beautiful redirection after a shot from the point from Lundberg after a cross ice pass from #25 Adrian Veideman. Minutes later the Lynx comeback was complete as Pohanka got a pass from #5 Ken Scuderi, cruised in the zone and fed the puck to #20 Matt Auffrey down the right wing. With Zaba out of position, Auffrey fired a blast right under the crossbar for the first Lynx lead of the night at 5-4. The 3rd period was more impressive Lynx defense with the lone goal coming to Slattengren. #9 Louis Goulet made the play happen by taking a pass from Auffrey, sliding around the back of the Checkers net and throwing a no look, blind pass to a wide-open Slattengren who slammed it in the backdoor for the 6-4 lead. Slattengren's four-points were complimented by a goal by Dingle in his return and multiple-point nights from Pohanka, Lundberg, Veideman, and Auffrey.
Thursday, January 10, Florida Everblades 1 @ Augusta Lynx 7
Maybe it is just Aaron Slattengren's week? Two nights after posting a four-point night in a 6-4 win over Charlotte, Lynx forward #19 Aaron Slattengren posted his second straight four-point night, including a hat-trick in a 7-1 dismantling of the Florida Everblades on Thursday in Augusta. The win moved Augusta into sole possession of 3rd place in the South Division, one point ahead of South Carolina and two points ahead of Florida. The key moment of the game however, may have come early in the 1st period as the Lynx killed off a 5 on 3 power play, led by the goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert. After that the Lynx responded with Slattengren's first of the night with assist to #17 Jeremy Schenderling and #2 Jason Platt. In the 2nd period, the Lynx opened the floodgates. #9 Louis Goulet made it 2-0 with a great tip-in goal on a pass from Slattengren and #15 Eric Lundberg. Then, Slattengren scored back-to-back goals to make it 4-0, the first on a 5 on 3 power play with assists to #3 Brian Yandle and #12 Ryan Dingle, and the second with assists to linemates Goulet and Schenderling. The Lynx didn't let up in the 3rd period as #16 Chase Watson made it 5-0, blasting home a slapshot from the left wing that beat Everblades goaltender Justin Peters, with assists to Yandle and newcomer #10 Geoff Peters. Florida would break the shutout bid of Goepfert with a goal after a scramble in front, but it would be all the Lynx would allow. #21 Bobby Bolt made it 6-1 with a shorthanded, breakaway goal after a great pass from #5 Ken Scuderi. Finally, Watson would score his 2nd goal of the night to make it 7-1, as he banked in a shot off of former NHL defenseman Brad Brown with an assist to #7 James Brannigan on the power play. The Lynx stayed very disciplined, especially late as the game became more lopsided. The Lynx power play got the best of the league's best penalty kill in the Everblades going 3 for 11 on the man-advantage, while Florida was 0 for 5 on their power plays.
Friday, January 11, Florida Everblades 6 @ Augusta Lynx 1
What a difference a night makes. A night after crushing the Florida Everblades 7-1, the Augusta Lynx were on the other end of the spectrum on Friday as Florida handed Augusta a 6-1 loss in front of a season-high crowd of 4,174 fans. In their last two games prior to Friday the Lynx had scored a combined 13 goals, but another high-powered offensive night was not to be for the Lynx. Things didn't go well from the start for Augusta and goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert, who gave up two goals on the first two Everblades shots of the game, both from Derek Damon. Damon completed the natural hat-trick in the 1st period with his 3rd goal and the Everblades led 3-0 after the 1st period. During the intermission, it was discovered that a pipe beneath the ice had burst at one end of the rink. For the next 35 minutes the Lynx staff worked feverishly to get the area frozen enough for play to continue. As the 2nd period finally commenced, the Everblades continued scoring as Kirk MacDonald and Brad Brown lit the lamp, chasing Goepfert from the net after the 4th goal in favor of #35 JP Levasseur. Levasseur made several good saves the rest of the way out, but couldn't stop two sent his way as Florida went up 6-0. Numerous timeouts to keep the patch of ice frozen didn't help the Lynx generate any goal until :15 seconds remaining the game when on the power play, #10 Geoff Peters scored his first goal in a Lynx uniform, spoiling the shutout of Everblades goaltender David Shantz, who stopped 36 Lynx shots on the night. #3 Brian Yandle and #12 Ryan Dingle assisted on the lone Lynx goal.
Saturday, January 12, Mississippi SeaWolves 1 @ Augusta Lynx 4
Led by three points by captain #9 Louis Goulet and a strong goaltending performance by #30 Bobby Goepfert, the Augusta Lynx got back to the winning side of things Saturday night with a 4-1 win over the Mississippi SeaWolves. The win snapped the SeaWolves five-game winning streak and moved the Lynx back into sole possession of 3rd place in the South Division. The majority of scoring was done in the 1st period as the Lynx got on the board first with Goulet's 10th goal of the season after tipping in a shot from the point by #5 Ken Scuderi. However, Mississippi answered right back with a goal from Chase Trull to tie the game at 1-1. #19 Aaron Slattengren's 27th goal of the year made it 2-1 as he tipped home a shot from the point from #3 Brian Yandle adding the second assist to Goulet. After a scoreless 2nd period, the Lynx special teams shined again as #10 Geoff Peters scored on a shorthanded breakaway, beating SeaWolves goaltender Morgan Cey high to the glove side. #11 Matt Christie and #15 Eric Lundberg assisted on the play. The Lynx put the final touches on the game as #20 Matt Auffrey found the back of the net thanks to a sweet pass from Slattengren with another assist to Goulet. Goepfert record another strong outing between the pipes, stopping 29 of 30 shots for the win.
