Condors split a pair against RoadRunners

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Recently-acquired G Michel Robinson made 38 saves in his home debut, leading the Condors to a 3-2 victory Saturday night in the second of two games against the Phoenix RoadRunners last week. The RoadRunners took the first game, 4-0, Tuesday night.

The Condors are 9-20-6 on the season and in 4th place in the Pacific Division. Bakersfield trails the third place Stockton Thunder by 10 points in the Pacific Division, and is eight points behind the Phoenix RoadRunners in the National Conference playoff race. The Condors are in Victoria for two games against the Salmon Kings on Tuesday and Wednesday, before returning home to face off against the Las Vegas Wranglers Friday night.

The RoadRunners took an early two-goal lead, scoring twice in the span of 14 seconds in the opening frame. Bakersfield finished the first period strong, out-shooting Phoenix 8-4 after the RoadRunners' second goal. The Condors continued to fire away on Phoenix G Cody Rudkowsky, putting an all-time Condors record 28 shots on goal in the second frame and finishing the game with 47 total shots on net. However, Rudkowsky turned away every shot he faced, guiding Phoenix to the 4-0 shutout win.

The Condors bounced back with a 3-2 win over Phoenix on Saturday. G Michel Robinson started his first game at home for the Condors, and stopped 38 of 40 shots to earn his first win in a Bakersfield jersey. Condors LW Mark Derlago and RW Jason Kostadine tallied back-to-back goals in the first period, putting Bakersfield up, 2-1. However, Phoenix tied it up late in the stanza with a goal from D Reagan Rome. The game remained tied until D Kevin Truelson fired home the game-winner on a four-on-three power play at 10:19 of the third.

CONDORS ACQUIRE BOUDREAU FOR LATER:

The Condors acquired forward Tom Boudreau from the Reading Royals on Sunday, Jan. 13. Boudreau, a rookie, notched a point in each of his first three games with Reading, and finished his stint with the Royals with four points (2g-2a) and four penalty minutes in seven games.

The acquisition of Boudreau completed the deal announced Saturday, in which the Condors traded defenseman Steven Later to Reading in exchange for future considerations. Later accumulated 14 points (6g-8a) and 65 penalty minutes in 21 games for the Condors this season.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

D Kevin Truelson recorded his 121st point as a Condor with a goal Saturday night, tying Jeff Goldie for ninth on the Condors all-time points list. He also played in his 250th professional game Saturday night. The two-time All-Star has spent his entire five-year career in the ECHL.

Since Dec. 25, G Yutaka Fukufuji has recorded a 2.65 GAA and .921 save percentage.

G Michel Robinson has posted a 3.01 GAA and .924 save percentage, going 1-1-0 in his first two starts.

D Reagan Leslie played his 150th career game Tuesday night.

F Eric Sonnenberg remains on the 3-day IR, though he is eligible to return.

D Jay Langager remains on the 7-day IR, but he is eligible to return.

C Mike Hofstrand remains on the 30-day IR, and is eligible to return on Jan. 25.

PROMOTIONAL NOTES:

After a road trip to Victoria for a pair of games on Tuesday and Wednesday (both starting at 7:05 p.m.), the Condors are back on home ice Friday, Jan. 18 against the Las Vegas Wranglers. The first 2,000 fans, five-and-older, will receive a Condors Cap, sponsored by KUZZ 107.9 and 3-Way Chevrolet. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.

The Condors go into the All-Star break after Friday's game, and will not play again until the following weekend, hosting Phoenix on Jan. 25 and Idaho on Jan. 26.
