Johnstown, PA- The second match up of the season between the Elmira Jackals and Johnstown Chiefs was a wild one tonight at the War Memorial. Breaking the 1-1 tie in the third period the Chiefs cruised on to a 4-2 win..
The scoring got started just one minute one second into the game when Pierre-Luc Faubert cashed in on his seventh goal of the season. Slavomir Tomko would get the assist on the play. The Jackals dominated the first 1:30 of the opening frame. Faubert's goal came on the third opportunity for the Jackals on the same flurry. The 1-0 lead would hold through the remainder of the first period with the shots at 14-11 in favor of the Chiefs.
The same story, different results in period two. The Jackals out shot the Chiefs 10-8 but lost their 1-0 lead at the 7:35 mark when Blair Yaworski beat Mitch O'Keefe. Alex Penner and Mike Bartlett would get the assists.. With the score notched at 1-1 after 40 minutes the shots were close at 22-21.
Things would open up in the third period when Mike Sgroi lit the lamp at the 4:55 mark of the third. The Chiefs would then take a 3-1 lead on a goal from Ryan Del Monte. After the Chiefs third goal Mitch O'Keefe would be pulled and in would come Brian Bridges. Moments after Bridges saw his first shot as a Jackal, Josh Apsenlind would go coast to coast and score a short handed goal, his sixth of the season to pull the game to 3-2. The Chiefs would tack on another, Andy Contois would score at the 13:22 mark to finish the game 4-2.
With the win the Chiefs improve to 18-6-1-0 while the Jackals fall to 11-8-0-3.
