Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: After mashing their way to an 11-3 victory in game one of a split doubleheader Saturday afternoon, the Albuquerque Isotopes (41-49) dropped the nightcap 6-3 to split the twin bill with the Las Vegas 51s (52-38) at Isotopes Park.
CRITICAL MOMENT: Las Vegas grabbed a 2-1 lead through just two innings, but Albuquerque seemed to be mounting a rally in the bottom of the fourth. Brock Peterson got the inningrolling with a leadoff double and advanced to third on a groundout. Back-to-back singles plated Peterson to tie the game at two and put the go-ahead run in scoring position, but before the Topes could get another run across, heavy rains moved over Isotopes Park, causing an hour and 14 minute rain delay. Once play resumed, a fly out ended the fourth inning and the 51s tacked on four more runs before the Isotopes could restart the offense.
SLUGGIN' ROMAK: Third baseman Jamie Romak was a combined 4-for-8 in two games Saturday, including two home runs and five RBI. In eight games since rejoining the Isotopes from the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 29, Romak is batting .394 (13-for-33) with fiveruns scored, two doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and a walk.
CARL, CARL, CARL: Four-time All-Star Carl Crawford joined the Topes prior to Saturday night's game on a Major League rehab assignment. In his first at-bat, he singled toleft field and advanced to third on a single by Jamie Romak. Crawford scored on a double by Brock Peterson and finished the game 1-for-2. He exited the game following the rain delay in the fourth inning.
DOUBLE TIMING AT THE PARK: In the 15 days leading up the All-Star Break, Albuquerque will play four doubleheaders, including two in the last four days. So far Albuquerque is 1-0-2 in twin bills during that stretch and 2-1-3 in doubleheaders on the season.
