Grube Leads Bees to Victory over the Chihuahuas

Salt Lake starter Jarrett Grube allowed four hits and one run over seven innings in the Bees 5-3 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark.

"Grube mixed his pitches up well tonight," said Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson. "He was throwing his fastball in the zone and getting it inside and outside. His slider is never an issue for him, but I thought he threw his fastball really well tonight."

Grube and El Paso starter Juan Paublo Oramas both tossed shut outs through three innings before the Bees got on the board with a two-run fourth. J.B. Shuck started the drive with a one-out single and scored on a double from Luis Jimenez. One batter later Roberto Lopez launched a two-out double to bring in the second run of the inning. El Paso put a strike on the board in the fifth but the Bees responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning. John Hester and Shawn O'Malley each took a free ride to first with one out and Tony Campana followed with his first hit for Salt Lake to load the bases. Shuck knocked in one with a sacrifice fly to center while Jimenez brought another two across the plate with a double.

The score would remain 5-1 in favor of the Bees until the ninth when El Paso staged a comeback rally. The Chihuahuas came within two, but Yoslan Herrera closed the door on the comeback.

The Bees host the Chihuahuas again tomorrow at Smith's Ballpark at 1:05 p.m. with a postgame concert from Larusso as a part of the Bees Summer Concert Series. For more information or tickets visit slbees.com.
