Capuano Strong in Debut, Sky Sox Win Fifth Straight, 5-2

For the fifth consecutive day, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (40-49) have walked away with a victory as they topped the Omaha Storm Chasers (45-44), 5-2, on Saturday night at Werner Park. The Sky Sox' five straight wins is now a season high.

Making his Sky Sox debut was recently signed Chris Capuano who made a solid start but didn't qualify for the win. He allowed just two hits in four innings of work with two strikeouts and no walks.

Picking up the win for the Sky Sox was LHP Pedro Hernandez (6-4) who piggybacked Capuano. Hernandez went 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits, while also striking out two and walking two.

The Sky Sox go all the offense they would need in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Tim Smalling and Drew Garcia each smacked RBI-singles to hand Colorado Springs the 2-0 lead.

Then in the fourth, Angelys Nina collected his third hit of the game which was also an RBI-single that was followed up by a two-run double by Tim Wheeler in the next at-bat.

Hernandez wasn't able to keep the shutout intact as he allowed a solo homer to Francisco Pena to lead off the bottom of the sixth. The Storm Chasers scored another run in the seventh in a bases loaded situation, before Hernandez and Greg Burke would lock it down and allow the Sky Sox to maintain their recent streak.

Burke came on in the eighth and picked up his first save of the season.

Picking up multi-hit games for the Sky Sox were Nina with three hits, and Wheeler, Smalling and Garcia with two each.

For Omaha, Buddy Baumann got the start and went three strong innings but it was RHP Michael Mariot who took the loss. Mariot (1-1) went 1.1 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits.

The Sky Sox will go for the third straight against Omaha at 1:05 p.m. (MT) on Sunday. RHP Juan Nicasio (2-1, 5.51 ERA) will take the mound against RHP Clayton Mortenson (3-0, 1.39 ERA).
