Isotopes Offense Stifled, Fall to Rainiers 3-0
April 24, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: Cold and wet conditions at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, WA, cooled the Albuquerque Isotopes (9-6) offense off Thursday evening as the Tacoma Rainiers (5-10) chipped a 3-0 victory away from the Isotopes. Albuquerque will have a chance to win its second series of the season and first series on the road Friday night.
DECIDING MOMENT: Left-handed pitchers Chris Rusin for the Isotopes and Mike Montgomery for the Rainiers cruised through the early innings without allowing a single hit. It wasn't until the bottom of the third when Tacoma's Shawn O'Malley singled home a run that either team could gain an advantage. Albuquerque was held hitless until sixth when Brandon Barnes poked a leadoff double into the left field corner. The Isotopes couldn't move him around, and the Rainiers would add another run in the bottom of the sixth before tacking on another in the eighth.
ASTOUNDING ADAMES: Shortstop Cristhian Adames has been tearing the cover off the ball during his last 12 games. After a 1-for-3 performance on Thursday, he now has 18 hits during that 12-game stretch, including a team-leading seven multi-hit performances. He also has nine runs scored, three doubles, two homers, seven RBI, six walks and only three strikeouts. Adames is batting .409 (18-for-44) since April 12.
THE BARNYARD: Center fielder Brandon Barnes has been nearly as impressive during the same stretch. Barnes has collected 14 hits in his last 11 games after posting a 1-for-4 outing Thursday evening. He has scored 12 runs and picked up three doubles and four dingers. He also has six RBI and four walks.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and Rainiers will play the finale of their four-game series against the Rainiers Friday night at 8:05 p.m. MT. A win would be their second series win of the season, but the Topes are guaranteed to at least split the series. While Albuquerque will use Friday as a bullpen day, right-hander Leuris Gomez (0-0, 6.35) will get the start on the mound. Tacoma will send righty Jordan Pries (0-1, 9.20)
IN THE HOLE: Following Albuquerque's four-game set in Tacoma, the Isotopes will continue their season-longest 12-game, 13-day road trip to Las Vegas for a four-game series against the Las Vegas, 51s. The Topes return home on April 30 to host the Salt Lake Bees.
