Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- Jesus Montero collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the Tacoma Rainiers 3-2 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes at Cheney Stadium on Friday night.
Montero's first knock came in the bottom of the first inning when the first baseman erased a 1-0 deficit with a two-out RBI single. He singled again in the bottom of the fifth, lining a shot right field that cleared the way for Chris Taylor to score and give the Rainiers a 2-1 edge.
Montero went 2-for-4 in Tacoma's series finale with the Isotopes. He has now hit safely in 14 of the first 15 games he's played this season, batting .371 with four doubles, three home runs, and a team-leading 12 RBI.
Catcher John Baker accounted for Tacoma's final run of the night after he delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. His hit was one of the nine the Rainiers combined to collect. The second baseman Taylor tallied two out of that hit total after going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Starter Jordan Pries (1-1) locked up his first win of the season after limiting Albuquerque to two runs on two hits through 6.1 innings. The right-hander struck out seven and walked two in his third turn in the Rainiers rotation this season.
Reliever Mayckol Guaipe surrendered just three hits in 2.2 scoreless innings on the way picking up his second save of the season. After allowing a triple to the leadoff hitter in the ninth, the right-hander surrendered the next three batters he faced to seal a series split for Tacoma.
The Rainiers (6-10) hit the road to open a four-game series at Sacramento tomorrow, April 25. Left-hander Roenis Elias (2-0, 8.04) is expected to start for Tacoma in the first game of the set against left-hander Braulio Lara (0-2, 8.78) for the River Cats. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
