Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes (15-12) received a stand-out performance from starter Mike Parisi, but couldn't hold on for nine full frames as the Oklahoma City RedHawks (17-10) mounted a ninth inning rally for a 4-1 win Wednesday night at Isotopes Park. The loss halts the 'Topes' four-game winning streak and drops them to two games in back of the first place 'Hawks.
With the 'Topes clinging to a 1-0 lead in the ninth, Josh Wall retired the first two RedHawks batters before yielding a double to Brett Wallace. Jimmy Paredes followed with a double of his own off the wall in left, scoring Wallace easily and tying the score 1-1. Wall continued to struggle with his command walking consecutive batters to load the bases. Wall was replaced with Ryan Tucker and after a nine-pitch battle with Justin Ruggiano, the RedHawks pinch hitter ripped a double that cleared the bases and give the 'Hawks a 4-1 lead.
Three runs was plenty for 'Hawks closer Jose Valdez (5) who retired the 'Topes in order in the bottom of the ninth and secured the 4-1 victory.
Parisi was nearly unhittable for seven scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and two walks while fanning seven. The right-hander never faced more than five batters in one inning through the entire contest, lowering his ERA on the season to 2.25.
Facing a scoreless ballgame through six and a half innings, Jerry Sands led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tim Federowicz. Joe Becker followed by delivering one of only two extra-base hits for the 'Topes on the night when he blasted a double to center field, plating Sands from second and giving the Isotopes a late lead, 1-0. The RBI double proved to be the only run scored for Albuquerque despite collecting seven hits against 'Hawks' pitching.
Dodgers' rehabbing reliever Ronald Belisario took over for Parisi in the eighth and tossed one scoreless inning in his final scheduled appearance for the Isotopes.
Aldalberto Flores (1-0) earned the win for the RedHawks on the back of starter Aneury Rodriguez's strong pitching performance in which he allowed only one run through seven innings of work
Albuquerque and Oklahoma City will finish their set Thursday at 6:35 PM with the Isotopes looking for a series win. 'Topes righty Will Savage (4-0, 2.55) will square off against 'Hawks right-hander Paul Clemens (1-1, 1.59).
The Isotopes' eight-game homestand continues tomorrow against OKC at 6:35 PM, and later includes Little League Banner Parades and back-to-back weekend fireworks. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.abqisotopes.com or www.ticketmaster.com .
